Why did XLG pick SEN over Wolves for their first international game?

Main Post:

BTW this is not completely hindsight bias, i was befuddled by the SEN pick immediately. But it looks in worse after the decisive loss when their shots weren’t connecting in a way that could be explained by “first international game lan jitters”. Playing a familiar Team that you have NEVER LOST A MAP TO IN 2025 would have erased that problem completely. Oh and did i mention SEN had literally just beaten wolves in swiss stage? It seems to me XLG coach ignored the painfully obvious truth and believed that the other Chinese werent among the weakest of the event(Barring mibr). That Or the coach knew SEN were the tougher opponent and wanted a more exciting match and wanted to bolster people’s perception of China by acting like Wolves were the tougher pick. This decision was then at the cost of lowering XLG’s chances to make a run and seems like a questionable pick. Which raises the original question of why tf did XLG pick SEN?

Top Comment: He said the same thing in sideshows chat in the prx vs liquid game. You just gotta do things for the culture sometimes Tbh wolves are winning today with how visibly nervous xlg was. I doubt playing against a wolves on a hot streak that is already very familiar with that crowd is gonna do anything for xlg. Also going to an international event just to choose someone from your same region is lame and boring imo. There's experience to be had against different styles of teams where they won't necessarily just run you down.

SEN Johnqt on upcoming G2 match: "We haven't had the best record against G2, but I think I'm going to have to use my secret weapon. It's like the Rock Lee weights coming off, and it's time to pull out Sun Tzu's Art of War."
